Weekend in Co. Wexford

Last weekend we had some relatives visiting us in Ireland and we decided to do something special.

The initial plan was to look for an area where we could spend the weekend (so it had to be relatively close to Dublin) and with interesting places nearby to visit. We also had to find somewhere to spend the night on Saturday not to expensive and family friendly....I know: it seems like a very hard task! so many requirements....

Some friends had recommended us Co. Wexford: approx 2 hours drive from Dublin, beautiful and peaceful beaches and nice forest parks around: it seemed like an ideal option; but we still had to find a place to stay the night.

When we go out for the weekend we like staying in B&Bs, as they are usually children friendly and the atmosphere is much more "homey" than in hotels, so we focused our search on the B&Bs on the Wexford coast....and there are loads of them! So, next step - reading the reviews: we started filtering and the best option to us was CLIFFORD HOUSE, in Rosslare Harbour.

I contacted Margaret, the owner who sounded like a charming lady. She confirmed there were rooms available for that night so I made the reservations inmediately.

I have to say that the weekend was a complete success, even though the weather was not so nice on Sat, it improved 100% on Sunday and we could enjoy the sun and quite warm temperature. The house was perfect! Everything was clean, the room temperature was fine, the bathrooms are modern and there was hot water at all times (important!), the breakfast choice was complete (fruit, cereals, youghourts, full Irish breakfast for those who wanted a heavier choice...) and the views, just for the views it's worth staying the night there: marvellous!

Here are some of the pictures we took while we were there:

We had the feeling we did not have enough time to visit all the places we would have liked to. I would surely recommend Curracloe beach for a long quiet walk on a sunny day... it's a huge beach with very fine golden sand:

and Johnstown Castle for a Sunday morning visit with the kids:

Enniscorthy seems like a very nice little village worth visiting, and Kilmore Quay and Courtown are lovely little villages on the coast

So, I would say that Co. Wexford is a great option to spend a weekend away from Dublin with the family: not too far away, lots of places to visit, reasonably priced accomodation...

Have you ever been there? What was your experience? Your opinion is greatly appreciated!
